Colin Kaepernick will donate first $1 million he makes this year to help people

Following the San Francisco 49ers' final game of the preseason, the controversial Colin Kaepernick took to the postgame podium to discuss why he elected to not stand during the national anthem once again.

Colin Kaepernick says he’s doing more than just sitting out the national anthem to affect change in this country.

"I've been very blessed to be in this position and to be able to make the kind of money I do," Kaepernick said. "And I have to help these people. I have to help these communities. It's not right that they're not put in a position to succeed or given those opportunities to succeed."

Kaepernick has a guaranteed $11.9 million salary from the 49ers this season, so he will have made his first million dollars by Week Two of the regular season. Kaepernick did not specify which organizations will receive his donation.

From the start, he has maintained he'll continue his protest until he sees meaningful change. And on Thursday, he continued by committing $1 million and getting his message back on track.
